I am a *huge* fan of some of those searing early-mid 80s renditions of this political ditty they hadn't settled into that Samson-esque midsection then and some of those experiments were really quite something. Hey, it's cool - as a set opener it certainly forces you to hear it all in a newer context. Set 2 - yadda yadda, Throwing Stones, blah blah blah.

Mexicali just limps, and Bruce or someone almost forgets their cue on Maggie's Farm - it's just been done much, much better, folks.īird Song is the lone keeper of the first set - now, *this* is some magic! There's a small 2nd-source patch here for the tune's outtro, in case you're wondering why it's broken up. They seem in quite an awful hurry to finish the tune, and Bruce really just overrides all the other instruments here. Set 1 doesn't gel Bruce's accordian is far too prevalent throughout the show (a sound I usually don't mind) is it unfair to take this Peggy-O, for example, and compare it to the hypno-drone delicacy of a '77 version? If not, then do so. I wouldn't spend the money on this particular DS release others I would and have. If you want to have a go at this, this AUD is about as crystal-clear as you can expect and is worth the time. I think the (sarcasm here) :::::mind-blowing::::: setlist was really the only reason personnel decided it was good enough to charge people money for. The Dead certainly were about experimentation in June of '91 (see the wild 6/17 show for comparison), but this one has only moderate success. I'm always about trying to separate the *concept* of an unusual setlist with just how well-played that unusual setlist is. Can't really give a super-enthusiastic review to this show, although for those that were there it is clear the voodoo of that setlist really cast a spell.
